- Sculpture as Concept
- This work arises from a question: how do you sculpt the immaterial? How do you give permanent form to an idea, a system of values, a silent revolution written in cryptographic code? A traditional sculpture takes up space, weighs, and degrades. This sculpture inhabits a different dimension: it is pure living information inscribed in the Bitcoin blockchain. It is not a work about Bitcoin; it is a work made of Bitcoin itself. The fundamental data of the blocks are not simply referenced or represented: they are the constituent material of the work. Just as Michelangelo freed form from marble, this sculpture emerges from the flows of data that traverse the most decentralized and resilient network ever created by humanity. The Bitcoin blockchain is simultaneously support, medium, and content: the work could not exist anywhere else. It is inseparable from its substrate, just as a fresco is inseparable from the wall that supports it. But unlike the fresco, this sculpture does not decay: it regenerates with each block mined, lives on-chain, and persists as long as the network itself exists and is used.
- Technical Realization
- Permissionless Data is a 1/1 artwork composed of two inscriptions stored on a single 9x450 SAT block. Inscription #106623801: Aphrodite / Female Nude / Dither Art Re-Inscription: Permissionless Data Sculpture The on-chain sculpture is a multilayered composition created using ordinal recursion and querying multiple recursive endpoints to request all data in real time from each Bitcoin block. Workflow: 1- The drawing is created by recursively calling inscription #65 and redrawing the image with ASCII characters, incorporating real-time data from each block into the texture. The brightness of the ASCII drawing depends on real-time Bitcoin transactions. Permissionless Data Sculpture lives and is visible as long as the network is used and has transactions: 0 transactions → all black; if Bitcoin is not used, the sculpture dies. 1-499 tx → brightness at 30% 500-7000 tx → brightness progressively from 30% to 250% >7000 tx → maximum brightness of 250% with a "glow" effect. 2- At the top right of the screen is the interactive icon created by recursively calling the image of inscription #65. 6. It can be moved around the screen, and clicking on it opens a terminal that allows you to navigate any past or present BTC block. 3- At the top left corner of the canvas is the ASCII text "Click to Decrypt Encrypted Data." Pressing it like a button takes you to the heart of the work, where an encrypted layer is located. This layer is accessible only by proving your humanity by entering the current height of the Bitcoin block. This proof of humanity, paradoxically linked to the blockchain, reveals a recursive image: a compressionist artistic representation of the body of a beautiful naked woman that challenges the censorship and control of contemporary culture. This painting is part of my artistic testament, of my thought; this is my portrait of Bitcoin. By EP
- The Manifesto: Unconditional Freedom
- Bitcoin embodies the radical idea of freedom, privacy, and decentralization: permissionless transactions, trustless verification, existence beyond centralized control. This sculpture brings the same radicality to art. The inclusion of historically censored content—the naked female body in its artistic dimension—is not a provocation in and of itself. It is the living demonstration of the founding principle: blockchain does not discriminate, judge, or censor. It is a neutral ground where human expression, in all its forms, finds refuge. This is the profound meaning of "permissionless": no institution can decide what deserves to exist. No authority can rewrite history. No cultural control can determine what is art and what is not.
- Permanence Beyond Institutions
- The work exists entirely on-chain: every byte is written in Bitcoin blocks. It is not dependent on servers, platforms, galleries, or institutions. A hundred years from now, perhaps when today's cultural structures have dissolved, this sculpture will continue to exist, immutable and accessible. The work proposes a radical vision: if Bitcoin can exist without permission, so can art. If Bitcoin can resist attempts at control, so can culture. If Bitcoin can be permanent, even human expression can find mathematical immortality.
