Not a Painting is a generative art collection that blurs the boundary between illusion and reality through the use of advanced GLSL shader programming. Simulating dynamic oil brushstrokes in real-time, the work gives the appearance of an endlessly evolving painting. Rooted in surrealist thought, the collection draws direct conceptual inspiration from René Magritte’s iconic The Treachery of Images and its paradoxical phrase, “Ceci n’est pas une pipe.” Like Magritte, Not a Painting invites the viewer to question the authenticity of what they see: each image appears painterly and tactile, yet it is entirely synthetic—an illusion created through code.
